Tesla is planning to have Gigafactory Berlin begin production in mid-2021. A recent drone flyover of the site shows significant progress indicating they are well on their way to meeting that target.
The first vehicle planned to roll off the production line will be the Model Y. CEO Elon Musk has said the Berlin-made Model Y will be revolutionary with a structural battery pack with new 4680 cells. Like the vehicles currently being built at Fremont and Shanghai, they will also feature the single-piece rear castings made in the IDRA Giga Press machine.
In his drone flyover, YouTuber Tobias Lindh captured the massive machine being assembled in the casting shop.
Another significant development was the sighting of office furniture already at the site. Several white desks can be seen through the windows of the drive unit building.
Recent rumours suggest Giga Berlin could begin preproduction as soon as May and full production by August. The information was revealed to a railway operator who was reportedly told to plan for transport of containers by those dates.
