Tesla has lowered the monthly price for its Full-Self Driving (FSD) subscription in the United States by 50%. The company has also lowered the number of referral credits required to redeem for 3 months of FSD.
While the FSD subscription has yet to launch in Canada, this is good news and means that when it does it will be substantially lower than we thought.
According to an update to the mobile app, the cost for the FSD subscription in the US has dropped to US$99 per month, as spotted by our friends over at Teslascope. That is a 50% reduction from the previous price of $199 per month.

At the same time, Tesla also lowered the number of referral credits required to redeem for 3 months of FSD from 10,000 down to 6,000 credits. This means with the recent lowering of referral rewards, you once again need just one referral for 3 months of FSD, and you will still have some credits left over.
While the price for the subscription and the number of referral credits required has been lowered, the price to purchase FSD outright has not changed and remains at US$12,000. This means it would take over 10 years of continuously subscribing to FSD to break even compared to purchasing it outright.
This price cut was somewhat expected. Yesterday Elon Musk interacted with several posts on X that suggested the company should lower the price to US$99, a figure that was seen to be at a level that would greatly accelerate the rate of uptake among owners.
This is especially the case now with Tesla providing almost every owner in North America with a free 30 day trial of FSD v12.
FSD Subscription in Canada
We were hoping the price drop would also bring FSD subscriptions to Canada, but while it is expected to launch before the end of this month, it did not arrive today.
However, when it does it should now cost around $135 per month, down substantially from the previous expected price of around $275 per month.
