Tesla delaying Model Y Performance deliveries from Giga Berlin over drive unit issues [Update]

Tesla has been cancelling and pushing back delivery dates for the Model Y Performance made at Giga Berlin over what appears to be concerns with the electric SUVs drive unit.

According to a thread on the popular TFF forum, numerous reservation holders are reporting that their deliveries, scheduled for as early as today and into next week, have been cancelled and delayed indefinitely. (h/t: @tesla_adri)

Based on initial reports it appeared the problem was something that could be fixed through an over-the-air (OTA) software update, but now that appears not to be the case.

According to information being relayed by Tesla employees, the problem has something to do with the voltage converter on the drive unit. The fix reportedly involves a part replacement which isn’t available at the moment.

There are some reports that some Model Y Performance SUVs that have already been delivered are also affected, but that has not been confirmed yet.

UPDATE 6:52pm PST: We have heard from one of our readers in Norway who has a three week old Model Y that suffers from the same problem, and his car cannot be driven. According to his Service Advisor they are waiting for the required parts and hope to have them by Wednesday, although the owner is skeptical they will arrive on time as his is the first car in the Scandinavian region to experience the problem.

Tesla has not issued a formal statement or a recall on the issue. Keep checking back for updates as we learn more about this issue.
