Following production line upgrades at Giga Shanghai, wait times for new vehicles had shrunk to as short as one week. The shortened delivery wait times applied to all models and variants built at the factory.
Now Tesla has updated their estimated delivery dates for all models except one, but only slightly.
At the same time, the company has also extended an insurance subsidy offered to new customers until the end of the year and is offering new financing promotions in honour of a national holiday.
Tesla Wait Times in China
Tesla China only sells the entry-level Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Performance Model 3. According to the online Design Studio, new orders for both electric sedans are expected to be delivered in 4 to 8 weeks.
Prior to this update, the RWD had a wait time of 1-8 weeks, while the Performance was 1-10 weeks.
Giga Shanghai produces three variants of the Model Y.
Wait times for the Long Range (LR) and Performance have been adjusted to 4-8 weeks. Both were previously 1-10 weeks.
The RWD variant remains unchanged.
Tesla China Insurance Subsidy
In mid-September Tesla begun offering to buyers that were able to take delivery before the end of the month a subsidy of RMB 8,000 or $1,140 USD/$1,521 CAD. The promotion was only available in-store and Tesla China didn’t officially announce it.
Now Tesla China has announced on Weibo the promotion has been changed slightly and extended to the end of the 2022.
The insurance subsidy has dropped to RMB 7,000 ($980 USD/$1,500 CAD) and is now available until December 31, 2022 to any new owner who purchases insurance from an approved provider.
In addition to the insurance subsidy, Tesla is also offering two other incentives in honour of the National Day holiday in China.
Between October 1 and October 7 buyers can pick a down payment as low as 0 or opt for Tesla’s financing lease program.
