Tesla brings regular Model Y to North America, ends Launch Series sales

Tesla has officially introduced the regular version of the new Model Y to the North American market, with sales of the Launch Series ending at the same time. While the new Model Y is now available, it is only currently available in the Long Range trim, with both the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Performance trims missing from the lineup.

Tesla first introduced the refreshed Model Y in January in China and other Asia-Pacific markets, before bringing it to Canada and the US a few weeks later. While the regular Model Y has been introduced in a number of markets worldwide since then, North American customers have been limited to the more expensive Launch Series, until now.

On Friday Tesla updated their online configurator to remove the Launch Series and add the regular version of the Model Y Long Range. In Canada it is priced at C$69,990, while in the US is starts at US$48,990, both of which are C$1,000/US/1,000 more than the legacy Model Y.

While many complained about the price of the Launch Series at C$84,990/US$59,990, it was actually a good deal, if you were going to buy all of the options anyway. Pricing out a similar spec Model Y in the Long Range trim works out now to nearly $95,000 in Canada and $65,000 in the US.

Also with the new Model Y, Tesla has started including the Mobile Charger with the purchase of the car. This used to be included, but Tesla removed it and made it an option in 2022.
