Tesla brings Quicksilver to Model Y in Canada, makes Dark Gemini Wheels standard, and axes seven-seat option

Tesla was busy making a number of changes to the Design Studio for the Model Y in Canada on Thursday night, adding a new paint colour, and also discontinuing a wheel and interior configuration option.

Quicksilver Now Available in Canada

Canadians had to wait a little longer than our friends south of the border, but our patience paid off and Quicksilver is now an available paint option for the Model Y. As in the US, which saw Quicksilver added in early May, the new paint is tied with Ultra Red for the most expensive option, priced at C$2,600.

However, unlike when it was first introduced in the US, when it was only available on the Performance variant, Quicksilver’s debut in Canada see it available on all three variants of the Model Y.

Will Quicksilver Come to Model 3 in Canada?

Tesla recently started producing the Model 3 in Quicksilver at Giga Shanghai, meaning it is available in a large number of markets that receives their supply from China. While Tesla has yet to add Quicksilver to the Model 3 in Canada or the US, it could change, as Tesla posted on Instagram this week that it will be available in more markets soon.

Dark Gemini Wheels Now Standard

Another change to the Model Y in Canada is that the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Long Range (LR) variants now come with the Dark Gemini Wheels as standard equipment. This also means that the previously standard Light Gemini Wheels have been discontinued.

The Dark Gemini Wheels were first introduced in Canada last month, initially as a $750 option, before the price was raised to $1,000 a few weeks later.

Seven Seat Interior Option Removed

While Tesla added two new options for the Model Y in Canada, they also removed one – the seven seat interior configuration is no longer available. Until Thursday night the option to add a third row was only available on the LR variant, and for an extra $4,000.

It is unclear at this time why it has been removed, but it may return in the future. That’s because it isn’t the first time Tesla has done this, removing the option in May 2023. At that time it was due to Tesla switching their logistics and exporting Model Y from China to Canada, instead of bringing them up from the Fremont factory in California. It was only added back to Canada earlier this year in January.
