With rumours of an official Apple Watch app on the horizon, it looks as though Tesla will soon have its own official smartwatch in China through a partnership with Huami Technology.
An official announcement was made through a post on the Chinese social media website Weibo by Huami founder and CEO Huang Wang. In his post, he revealed the product would be unveiled on September 15 in China, meaning we’ll hear the announcement later today here in North America.
Based on the information revealed so far, the smart watch will be based on the Amzfit GTR and Amzfit GTS watches. Recently, both watches were enabled to act as car keys for the newly released XPeng P7 electric vehicle, reports GizmoChina.
According to its website, Huami is a “cloud-based healthcare services provider with world-leading smart wearable technology. Since its inception in 2013, Huami has quickly established its global leadership and recognition in the smart wearable industry by shipping millions of smart wearable devices.”

UPDATE: Tesla CEO Elon Musk has debunked this rumour, calling smart watch technology a thing of the past.
