Tesla adds Quicksilver to Model Y Design Studio in the US

Tesla has officially added Quicksilver as a paint option for the Model Y in the United States, allowing customers to custom build a Model Y in the new colour. The official launch of the new colour comes just one week after it first appeared in existing inventory.

According to an update to the Design Studio on Thursday night, Quicksilver can now be selected as an option when configuring a Model Y Long Range (LR) or Performance variant. Quicksilver is the most expensive paint option, alongside the most recent addition of Ultra Red, at US$2,000.

With its premium status, Quicksilver is not an option if you want to purchase the entry-level Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD).

Tesla has also lowered the price of the Solid Black paint option from $2,000 to $1,500. Tesla also lowered the price of Solid Black paint on the Model 3 Performance last week.

As when Quicksilver first appeared on existing inventory units last week, Canada is not included in the official launch of the new paint colour. That’s because Quicksilver is coming out of Giga Texas, which has never supplied cars to Canada.

Given that Elon Musk has previously said it was only possible to produce this colour in the “world’s most advanced” paint shops, and the fact the Fremont factory has a much older Paint Shop than Giga Berlin, Giga Texas, and Giga Shanghai, all of which are now producing Quicksilver, it is unlikely we will see Quicksilver coming out of Fremont, and therefore in Canada unless Tesla changes their logistics, which they have done in the past. Last year Canada received Model Y (and Model 3) from Giga Shanghai, before plans were reverted back to Fremont later in the year.
