Tesla Model 3 Performance gets price increase in the US

The new Tesla Model 3 Performance has seen its first price increase in the United States, just four days after it was finally launched. At the same time, Tesla also lowered the price for the white interior and black paint options, only for the Model 3 Performance, to somewhat offset the price increase.

There have been no similar price adjustments to the Model 3 Performance in Canada.

According to an update to the Design Studio on Friday night, the new Model 3 Performance now starts at $53,990, a $1,000 increase from it’s launch day pricing from earlier this week.

While it is only a $1,000 price increase, it can impact the price of the Model 3 Performance by $8,500, depending on your options. That is because the price limit to be eligible for the federal tax credit in the US is $55,000. So if you now want to order a new Model 3 Performance in Ultra Red (+$2,000) with the stock black interior, it will cost you $57,630, instead of $49,130, what you would have paid if you placed your order before the price increase, a difference of $8,500.

Along with the price increase, Tesla also lowered the price of white interior option by $500, from $1,500 to $1,000. The price of the Solid Black paint also saw a $500 decrease, now a $1,000 option. The price changes only impact the Performance variant, these options for the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Long Range (LR) variants are still at the original price.

Tesla only launched the new Model 3 Performance on Tuesday, so the price increase just a few days later is a little surprising, but based on recent comments from Elon Musk, it is for a good reason.

Musk recently commented on the price cuts that have taken place in markets around the world, saying the company has to adjust prices frequently to match production with demand. This means Tesla must have seen an influx of orders the Model 3 Performance since its launch, prompting the automaker to raise prices.
