SiriusXM accidentally reveals upcoming Tesla streaming app

SiriusXM has accidentally revealed that its media streaming service will soon be coming to the Tesla Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck through a free over-the-air (OTA) software update.

Until now, only the Model S and Model X have offered SiriusXM’s satellite radio capabilities through built-in hardware included in both of those vehicles. While Tesla has shown no interest in adding that hardware to its other vehicles, it will soon add the capability through a streaming app.

The addition of the new streaming service was first spotted by a user on Reddit, who discovered a page on the Canadian SiriusXM website that detailed how to start a free 30-day trial of the service from inside your vehicle.

As outlined in the screenshots from the now removed page, the trial can be started with three simple steps, the first of which says to download the most up to date software for your vehicle.

There wasn’t much else on the page, but going by SiriusXM’s existing offerings, a subscription will likely cost you C$22.80 per month after your free trial ends. In the US there are a few different plans offered, ranging from US$16.98 per month up to US$29.12.

This will give you ad-free music across various genres and decades, artist-curated channels, original talk shows, podcasts, comedy, and news . Sports fans can also listen to live coverage of their favourite sport and prominent sports talk shows.

Unfortunately the now deleted page didn’t say which software update will add the SiriusXM app. Tesla has been pretty good lately about advertising upcoming features, like it has done so with the spring and summer updates. The company has yet to announce anything to do with SiriusXM, but the fact that the webpage was briefly published online is a good sign it is likely not far away.

There were also a couple of other goodies in this leak unrelated to SiriusXM. In the screenshot we can see the user interface (UI) will be updated to display both the battery range and percentage at the same time. Additionally, Tesla has added ‘Est.’ in front of the range display.

Other electric automakers have also recently added SiriusXM, including Lucid and Rivian.
