Rivian launches discounts and free charging incentive on select trade-ins

Rivian has introduced a new incentive called the “Electric Upgrade Offer,” providing substantial discounts on the purchase or lease of a new Rivian R1 model when trading in certain internal combustion engine (ICE) cars. The deal also includes one year of free charging at Rivian Adventure Network (RAN) sites.

The offer is structured to encourage owners of gas guzzling vehicles to switch to electric by trading in their current vehicles for a Rivian R1. According to the details of the offer on Rivian’s website, eligible trade-in vehicles must be 2018 models or newer from brands such as Ford, Toyota, Jeep, Audi, and BMW.

Depending on the Rivian model and pack selected, discounts on the R1T and R1S models range from C$4,500 to C$7,500 in Canada, or US$1,000 to US$5,000 in the US.

  • R1T Standard, Standard+ Pack – US$3,000 / C$4,500
  • R1T Large Pack – US$4,000 / C$6,000
  • R1T Max Pack -US$5,000 / C$7,500
  • R1S Large Pack – US$1,000 / C$1,500

To be eligible for the offer, you must trade-in your old gas guzzler and purchase or lease a new Rivian between April 22, 2024, and June 30, 2024, with all trade-ins requiring a $1,000 non-refundable deposit to secure the configuration through Rivian’s online shop.

The charging benefit, which starts from the delivery day or May 1, 2024 (whichever comes later), is applicable only at RAN sites operated by Rivian. Currently, there are no RAN charging sites in Canada.

This isn’t the only incentive launched by Rivian this month. While the automaker’s factory is shut down for retooling, Rivian is also giving new owners a free XPEL Paint Protection Film (PPF) wrap worth $5,000.
