Rivian expands with lease of 327,000 square foot distribution center in Kentucky

Rivian is wasting no time expanding their presence across the US. Even though the fledgling automaker produced only 1,015 R1T and R1S EVs in 2021, they recently announced plans to build a second 20 million square foot manufacturing facility in Georgia.

The company also has their eyes set on Kentucky, after having recently signed a lease on a brand new 327,000 square foot distribution center.

The large facility is located at 825 Conestoga Parkway in South Louisville and was recently purchased by JLL Income Trust for $39.5 million.

Following the purchase, Rivian signed a 7-year lease on the brand new building, which only completed construction in August 2021.

The building features cross docking (the ability to directly transfer incoming products to outbound transport), 36 foot ceiling heights, and LED lighting, according to JLL.

Rivian has not announced the new lease or what it plans to use the facility for. Given its proximity to several major highways, it could serve as a parts warehouse and distribution center. With its large size, they could possibly even use a portion of it for servicing.

The financial terms of the lease were not disclosed, but a press release from JLL said it includes annual rent increases of 2.75%.
