Nikola recalling all Tre BEV trucks due to unintended rollaway risk

Nikola is recalling all Tre BEV trucks manufactured between November 2021 and April 2023 in the United States due to an issue related to the Bendix Intellipark Tractor Park Valve Module. Per the recall notice, the recall covers 364 total Tre BEV trucks.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that the park valve module might become stuck in the unparked position and not transition from unparked to parked when the Park Switch is pulled on the dash, increasing the likelihood of a crash if the driver fails to fan down the brakes.

The mechanical components in the PVM are at the upper limit of design thresholds, allowing for excessive internal air leakage, which prevents pressure from building properly when the pilot solenoid is activated.

Bendix supplied the part in question. Nikola first became aware of the issue on March 16, 2023, and decided on April 6 to conduct a voluntary recall in coordination with the NHTSA.

Dealerships and Tre owners will be notified of the recall between May 1 and May 31, and dealers will replace the PVM with a corrected part free of charge.
