Mercedes Performance Division AMG going electric with 600hp EQS

Mercedes has gotten off to a bit of a rough start when it comes to electric vehicles (EVs) after the German automaker delayed the North American release of the EQC SUV.

But that hasn’t slowed them down, as they are reportedly working with their performance division AMG to develop a 600+ horsepower version based on the VISION EQS concept sedan (via Autocar).

If the plans pan out, the AMG EQS would put up a good fight against the likes of the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan, while still delivering a level of luxury that few can match.

The design of the vehicle with its battery pack under the floor and dual electric motors, the EQS will reportedly have greater cabin space than the already cavernous S-Class sedan, and at the same time have a smaller footprint.

The standard EQS (non-AMG) concept car upon which this is based will feature a 100kWh battery pack and an estimated range of nearly 700km (430 miles). As with any vehicle that AMG touches, the extra performance that it brings will likely impact that range estimate, unless they also increase the size of the battery pack.
