GM is bringing back the Hummer, this time with an electric motor

The Hummer brand died some 10 years ago, but it appears now that General Motors (GM) will be bringing it back to reincarnate the Hummer as an electric truck.

According to people familiar with the matter, GM has brought on the likes of NBA superstar LeBron James to help promote the return of the Hummer, and has also purchased some of the very expensive commercial time during next month’s Super Bowl (via WSJ).

GM is planning a low volume production run for the Hummer EV, which isn’t expected to be released until 2022. That could give Tesla up to a years head-start to deliver the first Cybertrucks.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, an original Hummer fanatic, first brought the idea of an electric Hummer to life by having one of his original Hummers converted by Kreisel electric.
