Tesla has quietly marked a major milestone at Giga Texas with the production of its 400,000th Model Y. Instead of a formal announcement on X, as it has done with other production milestones, the company arranged dozens of red Model Ys on the roof of its parking structure, spelling out “400K” for local drone pilot Joe Tegtmeyer to capture during one of his regular flyovers.

Giga Texas officially opened on April 7, 2022, with a launch event dubbed the “Cyber Rodeo.” Production kicked off with the Model Y, and since then has expanded to include the Cybertruck. Currently the factory is being set up to produce the more affordable vehicles that are expected to debut this summer, and in the future will also produce the Cybercab.
According to the most recent update from Tesla in the Q1 2025 shareholder deck, Giga Texas has an installed Model Y production capacity of less than 250,000 units per year, a level it has been at since Q2 2022, while the Cybertruck’s production line capacity currently stands at less than 125,000 units.
The milestone also invites comparison to its European counterpart, Giga Berlin, which began deliveries just a few weeks before Giga Texas, in March 2022. Giga Berlin celebrated production of its 500,000th Model Y less than two weeks ago.
