Tesla nears half trillion dollar valuation, Elon Musk now second richest person in the world

Just days after becoming the third richest person in the world by surpassing Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has made another move up the list of the world’s richest people.

This time Musk has moved ahead of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, who he once said had “no clue” about electric vehicles. With share prices closing at a new all-time high of $521.85 and the market capitalization of the company nearing half a trillion dollars on Monday, Musk is now worth an estimated $127.9 billion.

Musk still has a way to go to catch Jeff Bezos, the man currently sitting atop Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index, worth an estimated $182 billion.

With the continued rise in Tesla share prices, the company’s inclusion in the S&P 500 Index next month, Giga Texas and Giga Berlin under construction, Model Y production about to begin in China, Cybertruck and Semi production beginning next year, and Full Self-Driving (FSD) on the horizon, it wouldn’t be surprising if Musk is at the top of the list by the end of 2021.
