BYD announces European pre-sales pricing, starts below 40,000 euros

BYD has been planning an expansion into Europe and has announced prices for its cars on the continent. Its lineup of three EVs will start from as little as 38,000 euros, ahead of full details coming next month.

BYD (Build Your Dreams) is a Chinese brand with the backing of acclaimed investor Warren Buffet. It is one of the largest automakers in China, with more than 320,000 fully electric cars produced in 2021.

With success assured in China, BYD is bringing its wares to Europe. This started with the Tang EV launch in Norway in 2020. However, three more electric models are coming to European buyers.

While BYD had announced expansion into Japan earlier, deliveries will start in Europe first.

The three EVs coming to Europe are the ATTO 3 SUV, TANG SUV, and HAN sedan. The ATTO 3 starts at 38,000 euros while the TANG and HAN start nearly double at 72,000 euros. The prices are for the German market and vary from country to country.

BYD plans to bring the three cars to the UK. However, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg will join Germany as the take-off countries.

The ATTO 3 has a driving range of 420 km (WLTP combined standard) and an output of 150 kW. The TANG offers 400 km and 380 hp, while the HAN promises 521 km and 380 hp. They all use the new BYD blade battery, which will also power some German-made Tesla cars.

More details will be announced at the Paris Motor Show 2022 in October. The company earlier this month signed a land deal where it would build its EV production plant in Thailand.
