BC Hydro opens its first 350 kW EV charging hub in Hope

BC’s public charging network just took a major step forward. BC Hydro has officially switched on its first dedicated ultra-fast EV charging hub in Hope, delivering the highest-powered chargers in its provincial network and giving drivers on Highways 1, 3, and 5 a significant boost in convenience and charging speed.

Located at the Esso Gas Station and Silver Creek Travel Centre at 19700 Klassen Road, the same location as Tesla’s 24-stall Supercharger, the BC Hydro site features four 350 kW chargers, each capable of adding roughly 100 kilometres of driving range in about five minutes—the fastest charging capability currently available in the BC Hydro system.

Thanks to power sharing, each unit can support two EVs simultaneously at up to 175 kW, allowing as many as eight vehicles to charge at once.

“This new electric vehicle charge hub in Hope continues our work with BC Hydro and other partners to make cleaner options more accessible and affordable for all British Columbians,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions. “With more than 700 BC Hydro charging ports now available in communities throughout B.C., we are building a public charging network that’s ready to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles and will support economic growth in our province.”

Over the past year alone, BC Hydro has tripled the size of its network, adding 418 new charging ports and opening roughly two dozen new multi-port hubs across BC. The network now includes 753 ports at 170 sites, with a target of 800 ports by spring 2026.

The Hope hub is also a preview of what’s ahead. Later this year, BC Hydro plans to introduce its first 400 kW charger, capable of adding 100 km of range in as little as three minutes.
