BC Hydro launches EV charging survey

With over 80 electric vehicle (EV) charging charging stations across the province, BC Hydro has just launched a new survey to learn more from EV drivers about their experiences and habits at their locations.

The survey, which was sent to owners who have an EV charging account with BC Hydro, will help guide how future stations are designed, where they are located, what amenities you would like to see at their sites, and what kind of mobile app you would be comfortable using.

Based on the responses to those questions, BC Hydro is also asking EV drivers how they feel about paying for charging at their stations, most of. Due to current rules, owners are charged by the minute, not by how much energy is actually put into their vehicles.

The utility company is already changing the design of their charging stations to be more accessible for wheelchair users. The changes came about after hearing first-hand from a Tesla owner at a Vancouver Electric Vehicle Association (VEVA) meeting, who explained the difficulties he faces when attempting to charge his EV.

BC Hydro also recently announced charging sessions at their stations have now recovered to pre-covid levels with 20,000 sessions recorded in June.

While the survey was only sent to BC Hydro customers with an EV charging account, it appears anyone can take the survey at the link below. Once you have answered all the questions, you can enter to win one of five $50 Amazon gift cards.

Here is a copy of the email that was included with the survey invitation.
