Tesla Model Y Is Germany’s Best-Selling BEV in July & 2024

Tesla’s Model Y is once again the best-selling battery electric vehicle (BEV) in Germany. The compact SUV is the best-seller both in July and so far in 2024.

In July, 238,263 passenger cars were registered on German roads, down 2.1 percent compared to the same month last year, according to KBA. New private registrations increased by 7.3 percent, while commercial registrations fell by 6.3 percent.

A total of 83,405 vehicles were equipped with a gasoline engine, up by just 0.1 percent compared to the same month last year. Their share was 35 percent. Diesel engines were installed in 43,107 new vehicles, up 1.4 percent compared to the same month last year. Their share was 18.1 percent. In July 2024, 79,870 new vehicles were hybrids, accounting for 33.5 percent, including 14,811 plug-in hybrids. BEVs accounted for 12.9 percent of all new registrations. This equates to 30,762 units sold, representing a significant 36.8 percent decrease compared to July 2023.

Despite the overall decline in BEV sales, Tesla continued to show solid results. The company sold 1,926 Model Ys, making the car the best-selling BEV in the country last month. The car accounted for 6.3 percent of all BEV registrations in July 2024. Škoda Enyaq was in second place with 1,718 registrations, Seat Born took third with 1,683, and MG MG4 came in fourth with 1,423 units. Fiat 500E closed out the top 5 with 1,298 sales. Volkswagen was only able to take seventh place, with 1,278 ID.4s and ID.5s sold.

Tesla got off to a strong start at the beginning of the year with Model Y, which was the best-selling EV in the first three months. In the following three months, the car finished in different places in the top 6. However, strong sales throughout the year ensured a solid victory for the compact SUV this year. Thus, in the first seven months, 18,588 Model Ys were sold, which is an impressive 4,343 more than its nearest competitor. Volkswagen was able to sell 14,245 ID.3s, which guaranteed it second place. In third place was Volkswagen again with 12,406 ID.4s and ID.5s. Škoda secured fourth place with 11,347 Enyaqs sold. Closing out the top 5 was MG with 10,582 MG4s sold.
