Tesla could begin delivering Long Range RWD Model Y at Canadian launch

When Tesla first announced the Model Y SUV in May 2019, it was going to be available in the configurations we’re used to seeing from Tesla, with both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) options available.

The Long Range RWD option, initially listed as being available in 2021, soon disappeared from the Design Studio, as Tesla focused on the more expensive AWD variants first.

Now it appears the LR RWD could begin deliveries as soon as next month, when Canadian deliveries are expected to begin.

According to @MFrunker, he received a call from Tesla today confirming his RWD reservation will be delivered in May or June. These dates are dependant on when Tesla’s Fremont factory, the only one currently manufacturing the Model Y, can reopen after the coronavirus shutdown. It would also put them almost a year ahead of schedule.

Another Tesla fan responded to Mother Frunker’s tweet saying he too got a call from Tesla Oakville about his RWD reservation, but the Tesla employee provided no dates on when it would be available.

Over the last few weeks, Tesla stores in Canada have been calling reservation holders to see if they wanted to be included in the first batch of deliveries, but this is the first time we’ve seen May being referenced as a possible delivery date.

We even received one report of someone with a 7 seat configuration receiving a similar call, but that would put that delivery more than 6 months ahead of schedule, with no indications or leaks that this configuration would be released early.

Have any other RWD reservation holders received a similar call that included a potential delivery date? Let us know in the comments below.
