Tesla completes first Model Y casting at Giga Texas

Tesla has reached a significant milestone in the construction of Giga Texas by firing up the Giga Press and completing the first casting late last night.

The first IDRA Giga Press arrived at the site earlier this year in January. Crews were quick to get to work and began installing it ahead of the second Giga Press arriving last month.

At least one of those massive casting machines is now operational. According to a source at the construction site that spoke with drone operator Joe Tegtmeyer, the first Model Y rear casting was completed at around 8:00pm CDT (6:00pm PST) last night.

Unfortunately Tegtmeyer was unable to capture the first casting in his drone flyover, but was able to see crews around the Giga Press, showing that it was indeed up and running.

Tesla is targeting to have the first cars rolling off the production line at Giga Texas later this year. Those first vehicles will be the Model Y, hopefully followed soon thereafter by the Cybertruck.
