In January Tesla in China introduced a new wood trim design feature to both the Model 3 and Model Y. The new design feature extended the wood dash onto the driver and passenger doors. It generated a lot of discussion among the Tesla community, both positive and negative.
Based on a listing on Tesla’s website in Germany, it looks like Fremont may now also be building Model 3s with the new trim.
Discovered by Drive Tesla reader @tesla_adri, an existing inventory Model 3 with a VIN beginning in 5YJ (Tesla China VINs begin with LRW) shows the new door trim. Interestingly, a separate listing also with a 5YJ VIN shows the previous version of the door trim.
We have checked the Canadian and US version of Tesla’s website, both the Design Studio and Existing Inventory sections, and have been unable to find any images showing the new door trim.
As with several other design changes that first appeared in China, it was only a matter of time until this new feature would make its way to Fremont production lines.
