Did you receive an email from Tesla saying your Model 3 order was modified? Here’s why

Did you receive an email from Tesla yesterday saying your Model 3 order has been modified, but you didn’t actually make any changes?

We received half a dozen reports from owners who received this email yesterday, all of whom noted that while the message said their order had been modified, they could not spot any changes to their configurations.

The email was particularly concerning as modifying an order can not only push back your delivery date, but can also subject you to any price increases that have taken place since you placed your order.

Fortunately there was no such change, just a simple re-name your Model 3 variant from Standard Range Plus to Rear-Wheel Drive.

Tesla made the change to their website late last year, but only updated the accounts of existing reservation holders yesterday.

The reason it only took place yesterday is likely because they are now fully sold out of their SR+ inventory, which still had the previous nickel-cobalt-aluminum (NCA) batteries, and not the new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs in the Model 3 RWD.
