Musk: You will buy your grandpa a Tesla humanoid robot one day

Elon Musk is a geek at heart, and his company Tesla has been developing a humanoid robot. The CEO has revealed more details about the robot names Tesla Optimus or Tesla Bot, including possible use cases.

Musk unveiled the humanoid robot last year, but it was only an actor wearing a robot costume presented.

As reported by Electrek, Musk mentioned these details in a column published in the official publication of China’s Cyberspace Administration. The billionaire also touched on his Mars colonization plans and sustainable energy ambitions.

Musk wrote that the Tesla Bot was designed to appear like a human so it could easily fit into human environments and do things humans do.

The Tesla Bot was initially supposed to handle tedious, repetitive, and dangerous tasks. However, it will be used in household settings and handle tasks such as cooking, mowing lawns, caring for the elderly, etc.

Musk wrote that the Tesla bot would launch the first prototype this year. This tallies with reports that Tesla might present a working prototype during its AI Day on September 30th. The company will improve the robot’s intelligence and solve mass production issues. He noted that the robot might be cheaper than a car, and people might purchase it as a birthday gift for their parents.

Musk had earlier said Tesla Bot production might start next year.
