Tesla Model 3 Performance deliveries delayed in Canada for pending software update

Tesla Model 3 Performance deliveries in Canada have been delayed again, but this time it is due to a pending software update that is taking longer than expected to be released.

Tesla announced the Model 3 Performance in April, and the first Canadian deliveries were expected to take place in June. However, that timeline got extended because of a supply issue from China, where Tesla was exporting the car for the Canadian market with a different battery and slightly less horsepower.

Two months later and presumably due to these supply issues, Tesla is now also supplying Canada with Fremont-made cars, but with the same battery from China.

These first Model 3 Performance cars from California were scheduled to be delivered in Ontario on Thursday, according to one of our readers @Kfurant on X, who had a delivery set for 1:00pm on August 15 at Tesla Etobicoke. However, just hours before the delivery was set to take place, Tesla cancelled the appointment, saying a “needed firmware update has not been made available.”

The appointment was rescheduled for Friday, also at 1:00pm, but this morning that appointment was cancelled again, this time without it being rescheduled, and no timeline given for when it might take place.

“Please be advised that at this time we are not able to proceed with your Model 3 Performance delivery appointment. Once the needed update is available a team member will contact you to schedule you in for your delivery,” Tesla explained in the message.

Unfortunately Tesla has not explained what is so important in this software update that required deliveries to be cancelled, but there is likely a safety or recall feature in the update that is required by Transport Canada before the cars can be sold.
