Mitsubishi Motors is finally laying out some more details on its electrification plans for the next decade, but it may be too little and too late.
The automaker confirmed on Friday that it plans to have only hybrid or electric powertrains for all new car sales by the middle of the 2030s. With the new goal the company is still maintaining its 50 per cent electric or hybrid new sale goal they laid out for 2030.
They also noted the company would put out 16 new models over the next five years and expand the current geographic scope of its moderately successful PHEV Outlander. Of the sixteen models, four will be battery electric, five will be hybrid, and the rest will still be internal combustion.
Chief Executive Takao Kato had this to say:
Among our existing models, we’ll expand the geographical areas where our flagship PHEV Outlander is being offered and build out the sales of the Minicab-MiEV light commercial EV relaunched last year. (via China News Asia)
Of the four electric models, two will be under the Mitsubishi model, while the others will be under Renault and a Nissan alliance co-brand.
