Ford is enjoying success with its Mustang Mach-E in the law enforcement circle. The latest police department to add the EV to its fleet is Dearborn, Michigan, as reported by Ford Authority.
Ford has unveiled its first purpose-built EV for police operations.
The carmaker gave the city of Dearborn the Mach-E for free. It is on loan technically but can be used as deemed fit by the police. It will be put to use as a patrol vehicle. However, it is an opportunity for Ford to gather data on the car’s day-to-day performance as a police cruiser.
Greg Ebel, Brand Marketing Manager for Ford Police, said, “We’re using [the Mustang Mach-E] from a traffic enforcement perspective and allowing it to slowly integrate it into the patrol division. But I can tell you right now that it is very fast.”
The Ford Mustang Mach-E passed the Michigan State Patrol vehicle test last year. It had a GT powertrain with 480 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque.
Boulder Police also went electric in August, adding a new Tesla to its fleet. Bridgewater Police is also happy with its new Tesla, reporting better performance than expected.
