The City of Delta council voted to give preliminary approval to a bylaw amendment that would add new requirements for EV charging infrastructure in the community.
The new rules would affect new residential builds. As well, it will affect new commercial and industrial complexes and those undergoing significant renovations.
For multi-unit residential and mixed-use complexes, the new bylaw would require
- 100 per cent of vehicle spaces with a dedicated Level 2 outlet or charger.
- Residential bicycle storage areas with one outlet per four bicycle spaces.
For duplexes and single-family homes, the new bylaw would require
- At least one Level 2 capable outlet for sing-detached dwelling.
- For duplexes, they would need a Level 2 capable outlet for each unit.
For townhouses, the new bylaw would require
- A Level 2 capable outlet or higher for one space per dwelling unit in a garage.
The bylaw would also affect new commercial spaces and developments.
Commercial spaces would need to have at least 20 per cent of parking spaces with Level 2 charging capacity or higher.
Finally, those developing industrial sites would need to have at least 5 per cent of parking spaces with Level 2 charging equipment.
The rules are not fully approved as of yet. However, Delta is moving ahead, and by all indications will approve the new bylaws shortly.
