The Boring Company submitted a preliminary engineering proposal to build a pedestrian tunnel in Kyle, Texas.
The project would create a pedestrian underpass under the Union Pacific Railroad to connect the Plum Creek subdivision and mixed-use project to the east.
According to the proposal, the tunnel will accommodate pedestrians, bikes and even electric vehicles. The Boring Company tunnel will also include LED lighting, a backup emergency lighting system, and a CCTV system.
If the project moves ahead, the City of Kyle will pay $50,000 for the initial work to see if a tunnel will work in that area. This includes:
- $5,000 for a site visit
- $20,000 to initiate drilling for geotechnical investigation
- $15,000 for Geotechnical Laboratory
- $10,000 for a Preliminary Engineering Report and Construction Cost Proposal
According to Teslarati, City of Kyle officials directed staff to negotiate a contract with the Boring Company on April 5.
The approval for the project will be in the next few months when city staff deem the project ready for presentation. However, approval could come as early as the next council meeting on May 3. But as of yet, the City did not set a set date for the Boring Company underpass presentation.
