During the Top Gear Electric Awards 2022, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz was awarded Electric Car of the Year.
The judges praised the ID. Buzz on its high quality and responsive driving capabilities.
Head of Car Testing at Top Gear, Ollie Marriage, has this to say on the van.
“People who pretend to have an active lifestyle drive an SUV, those who actually do drive a VW van. Everyone we met loved that VW has rediscovered its mojo and found the Buzz breezy, fresh, and invigorating. Isn’t it great that VW has finally had the courage to reinvent the original? It’s beguilingly simple and yet entirely uplifting. And that’s why it’s our electric car of the year.”
The VW ID. Buzz is built on the Modular Electric Drive Kit and built from the ground up with electrification in mind. With its 201 hp motor and an 82 kWh battery, the ID. Buzz is certainly a solid EV.
The ID. Buzz passenger version comes with five seats and doubles the storage of a traditional SUV.
Although it plays homage to the original VW T1 Bus, this new van brings sustainability to the brand. The interior is leather-free and made of recycled materials, and the vehicle has sustainable components throughout.
