Earlier this month Transport Canada (TC) said they were conducting an ‘Issue Assessment Investigation’ related to the recent heat pump failures in Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles.
The assessment resulted from as many as 16 owners complaining about having no heat in temperatures as low as -40°C.
It appears as they found enough information to validate the concerns of those owners, announcing they now have an active ‘Defect Investigation.’
Along with the upgrade in their investigation, the government department is also now actively requesting owners who have experienced the issue to contact them.
If you would like to share your experience with Transport Canada, you can call them at 1-800-333-0510.
You can also file a new defect complaint form on their website here.
Although their investigation is focused on 2021-2022 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, we have also heard from several refresh Model S owners in Canada who have experienced the issue.
In response to a question from Drive Tesla earlier this month, CEO Elon Musk said that the company is taking the issue very seriously and fixing it is a high priority.
They have so far been attempting to correct it through a series of software fixes, none of which seem to have fully corrected it for all owners, leading some to think it could be a hardware issue and not something that can be fully corrected through software.
If Transport Canada’s investigation finds enough evidence of a serious defect, the government department that could ultimately issue a recall.
