Electric vehicle (EV) drivers in Northern BC are feeling optimistic about the future of EV’s in the region as the Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT) announced a funding commitment of $192,000 to build new Level 2 EV chargers.

With the funds from NDIT, 26 local government and First Nations communities will be receiving 47 new chargers, giving EV drivers in the region better access to surrounding communities. NDIT CEO Joel McKay said that this expansion is just the beginning for Northern BC.
“This isn’t a ‘one-and-done’ project. As the number of EVs increase, so does the need for charging stations and I look forward to committing more grant dollars in the future.”/em>
While Tesla recently completed their coast-to-coast Trans-Canada Supercharger network, they currently have no plans for Superchargers anywhere near Northern BC. The closest current location is in Kamloops, so these chargers will be a welcomed addition for Tesla owners in Northern BC.
Prince George will be receiving the most EV chargers with 11, while the Nisga’a Nation and McBride will be receiving 5 and 4 respectively. Here is a list of all the locations set to receive an EV charger, along with the number to be installed.
