The City of Toronto announced a pilot project with an autonomous shuttle based on the Rouge Hill Go Station. The trial will use a low-speed automated vehicle to make fixed-location stops in the West Rouge Neighbourhood.
The shuttle will stop at the community centre, the national urban park, and the Rouge Hill Go station.
The shuttle will have a human attendant on board during the pilot project and will intervene during the operation if needed. The pilot is part of a partnership between the City of Toronto, Metrolinx and the Toronto Transit Commission.
The pilot is designed around the GO schedules and will operate during peak times. The finalized schedule is due to release next month.
While the trial is during a pandemic, people who hope to ride the shuttle will need to book in advance. The shuttle is limiting passengers to a single ride or those within the same household. The shuttle will begin operations in October.
