GM announces electric Chevy Silverado pickup truck with 400 miles of range

General Motors announced today it plans to build an electric version of the popular Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, but revealed few details about the EV.

The announcement was made by GM President Mark Reuss earlier today, who said the Silverado EV would be built at the company’s Factory ZERO in Michigan. Along with the Silverado EV, Reuss also confirmed this facility will begin producing the GMC Hummer EV in 2024.

Few other details about the electric Silverado were revealed. We do know it will be designed from the ground up to be a purpose-built EV. It will be based on GM’s Ultium Platform, which the company says will provide “more than 400 miles (643km) on a full charge.”

In an attempt to tap into the lucrative commercial sector, the electric Silverado will also be offered in different variants for fleet operators.

No details were announced on when it will enter production, or even what it will look like. Expect to hear more about the Silverado EV in the coming months.
