Last week we told you about Measurement Canada’s commitment to switch to a per-kWh billing system for EV charging stations across Canada.
Current standards make you pay based on the amount of time you are plugged in, not on the amount of energy you actually consume. This is unfair because there are a number of factors that can impact charging speed, including temperature, infrastructure, and your vehicles capabilities.
This change won’t happen overnight and will take about 18 months to implement. During that time, Measurement Canada will be developing performance-based requirements to help minimize costs and the regulatory burden for EV charging station operators and equipment manufacturers.
Now they are looking for help from EV owners in developing these requirements, and are encouraging you to apply if you would like to be part of their working group.
If you are interested, simply send an email to ic.evce-erve.ic@canada.ca before January 11, 2021. Include your name and whether you are an EV owner, charging station owner/operator or equipment manufacturer.
