Tesla launches Model Y L accessories in the US ahead of first deliveries

Tesla is preparing to deliver the first Model Y L vehicles in the United States in the coming weeks, and ahead of those deliveries has launched a collection of accessories designed specifically for the larger six-seat SUV.

And in case you’re wondering, no similar shop has been added in Canada as Canadian buyers are still waiting for their chance to order the extended wheelbase Model Y L.

Among the new products are Model Y L-specific all-weather interior, trunk and seatback liners, along with front, roof and rear liftgate sunshades. Tesla is also selling rear door sill guards for US$95 and a pair of moulded trunk storage bins for US$80.

Tesla has also launched a Model Y L roof rack for US$500, rated to carry up to 165 lbs (75 kg). A fitted outdoor car cover is US$195, while a parcel shelf for behind the third row is US$125.

Not everything we expected to see in the Model Y L shop has made an appearance, however. Compared to China, where the SUV has been available since last year, the US lineup is still missing a few accessories, including privacy shades for the side windows and the Model Y L air mattress.

Owners won’t necessarily need Model Y L-specific versions of every accessory. Several products designed for the regular Model Y are cross-compatible, including frunk bins, console organizers and other smaller items. Tesla’s vehicle-to-load (V2L) adapter also works with both vehicles.

As we noted above, while US deliveries are about to begin, Tesla has yet to offer the Model Y L to Canadian buyers. Its absence is somewhat surprising given that Tesla has been importing Model 3s from Giga Shanghai into Canada since earlier this year, meaning the company already has an established supply route from China.

Despite that, the China-built Model Y L is still missing from Tesla’s Canadian online configurator. Tesla currently imports the Model Y into Canada from Giga Berlin in Germany, while US customers will receive Model Y Ls built at Giga Texas.
