Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) testing program in Belgium is moving quickly, with local officials confirming the company has already completed nearly half of its planned validation kilometres on Flemish roads.
Flemish Minister of Mobility Annick De Ridder shared several updates on Friday, revealing that Tesla’s FSD (Supervised) system has already driven more than 2,000 km in one week. Tesla is required to complete at least 5,000 km of testing before the system can be considered for approval.
According to De Ridder, the testing is specifically focused on infrastructure and traffic situations unique to Belgium, helping regulators compare how Tesla’s system performs relative to the Netherlands, where FSD recently received approval from the RDW.

Tesla expanding Belgian test fleet
The first 2,000 km was completed in about one week, but the remaining 3,000 km could be completed even quicker. De Ridder also revealed Tesla has now increased the number of vehicles participating in the Belgian validation program to three.
That expanded fleet could allow Tesla to complete the planned 5,000 km requirement significantly faster than initially expected, potentially shortening the timeline for a decision on fast-track homologation in Belgium.
What Belgium is testing
Belgian authorities are not simply repeating Dutch testing procedures, the first European country to grant approval fro FSD. Instead, regulators are examining how Tesla’s system handles several road scenarios that are more common or uniquely implemented in Belgium.
According to De Ridder, testing currently includes:
- Interaction with trams
- Bicycle streets
- Built-up area detection
- Supplemental road signs
- Bicycle suggestion lanes
- Temporary construction-zone signaling
Those conditions reflect the more complex urban environments found in many Belgian cities, where cycling infrastructure, tram networks, and temporary road modifications can create challenges even for human drivers.
Europe’s FSD momentum continues
The rapid progress in Belgium adds to growing momentum for Tesla’s FSD rollout across Europe. Following the Dutch approval, regulators in other countries have already begun exploring ways to accelerate their own review processes rather than starting entirely from scratch.
The Netherlands’ approval is increasingly acting as a reference framework for neighboring countries, with Dutch regulators sharing testing data and safety findings with other European authorities.
That Dutch approval has allowed one other country to do the same. Earlier this week, FSD rolled out to owners in Lithuania.
