As Tesla prepares to begin production at its new Megafactory Texas facility near Houston, the company is already investing in the workforce needed to support it. Tesla and Houston City College officially signed a workforce training partnership this week aimed at developing talent for careers in advanced manufacturing, EV technology, and sustainable energy.
The agreement comes as Tesla continues building out operations at its Brookshire-area Megafactory, where the company will manufacture its Megapack utility-scale battery storage systems. Production at the site is expected to begin later this year.
Under the newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Tesla and HCC will collaborate on curriculum development, hands-on training, and workforce preparation programs tailored to the needs of modern manufacturing facilities.
The initiative is also expected to expand quickly, with enrollment projected to grow to 250 students before the end of the year.
“This partnership reflects Houston City College’s commitment to building strong industry connections that create meaningful career opportunities for our students and community,” said HCC Chancellor Margaret Ford Fisher. “By partnering with Tesla, we are taking a leading role in meeting the demands of today’s advanced manufacturing industry for our region.”
Tesla’s Director of Megafactory Operations, Javier Corral Astorga, said the company sees the collaboration as an opportunity to help develop the next generation of skilled manufacturing workers.
“We are proud to partner with Houston City College to help prepare the next generation of manufacturing professionals,” Astorga said in a press release. “We’re excited about creating opportunities for individuals to gain the technical skills and real-world experience needed to support the rapidly growing advanced manufacturing sector.”
Students in the program will receive training in troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, and industry safety standards — all areas critical to large-scale manufacturing environments like Tesla’s Megafactory Texas.
Tesla’s growing emphasis on workforce partnerships mirrors similar initiatives launched around Giga Nevada, Giga Texas, and Giga Berlin.
