SpaceX is extending its popular “free” Starlink Mini promotion beyond Australia, with a select customers in Canada and the United States now receiving offers for a complimentary portable satellite dish. The Starlink Mini—normally priced at C$599 or US$499—is being offered at no upfront cost to eligible customers who’ve maintained a Residential plan for over a year.
According to screenshots shared by customers online, the email from SpaceX reads, “As a thank you for being a Residential customer for over a year, you’ll receive a $0 Starlink Mini—so you can take the same fast, reliable internet you use at home anywhere you go.” (via PC Mag)
However, the fine print clarifies that the Mini dish isn’t truly free—it’s technically a rental unit. Customers must return it if they cancel their Residential or Mini Roam service plan. This mirrors the same policy used when SpaceX first launched the offer in Australia earlier this year.
The expansion follows last week’s news that SpaceX had discounted the Starlink Mini to C$399/US$299. That sale—available through Starlink.com and third-party retailers such as Walmart, Best Buy, and Home Depot—appeared to signal SpaceX’s push to make its smaller, backpack-sized terminal more accessible to travelers, RV owners, and remote workers.
While the Mini dish can’t replace a user’s primary home terminal, it can be linked to a Starlink Roam plan, offering portability and satellite internet access across North America. The Roam Unlimited plan currently costs C$189 per month in Canada, though a more budget-friendly 50GB plan is also available at C$70 per month. In the U.S., the Roam plans start at $50 per month for 50GB or $165 for unlimited data.
However, SpaceX says customers receiving the free Mini offer can activate it with 50% off the Roam service tier.
For those who don’t need full connectivity year-round, SpaceX also allows the dish to be placed in standby mode for $5 per month. In that state, the connection speed drops to 0.5Mbps, but users retain unlimited data access for basic use and keep the Mini active without returning it. SpaceX notes that redemptions must be completed by October 22, 2025.
