Tesla Powerwall Production Milestone – 1,000,000 Units Built

Tesla has announced the production of its 1,000,000th Powerwall unit at Giga Nevada, marking a major milestone in its push to transform residential energy systems.

The announcement came on Monday via Tesla Energy’s official account on X, congratulating the Nevada team for their role in building the millionth Powerwall.

Scaling Up Production

Tesla’s journey to one million Powerwalls has been marked by continuous improvements in production efficiency. In November 2024, Giga Nevada hit a record of producing 1,000 Powerwalls in a single day. By early 2025, that number had surged to 1,500 units per day—a 50% increase in just three months.

Tesla has achieved this growth through optimized production lines, two 12-hour shifts, and the streamlined design of its latest product, the Powerwall 3. This third-generation model retains a 13.5 kWh capacity but delivers 11.5 kW of continuous power and up to 30 kW of peak power—more than double the output of the Powerwall 2.

To meet increasing customer demand, Tesla also introduced the Powerwall 3 Expansion Unit, allowing homeowners to scale their energy storage up to 40.5 kWh per system.

Strengthening the Grid

Beyond individual homes, Powerwalls play a crucial role in Virtual Power Plants (VPPs). These decentralized networks allow Powerwall owners to sell energy back to the grid during periods of peak demand. As of May 2025, more than 100,000 Powerwalls are enrolled in such programs globally, helping stabilize local grids and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

In 2024, Powerwall owners earned over $10 million participating in VPPs in the United States alone.

Tesla Energy: Record Growth

Tesla Energy achieved a significant milestone in the first quarter of 2025, with revenue surging by 67% year-over-year to $2.73 billion. This growth was driven by record deployments of 10.4 GWh of energy storage products, including the Powerwall and Megapack systems. Notably, Powerwall deployments exceeded 1 GWh for the first time, highlighting the increasing demand for residential energy storage solutions.
