Ford to deliver an electric Transit cargo van to Canada in 2022

Ford has announced plans to bring a new all-electric version of their popular Transit cargo van to Canada and the US for the 2022 model year.

The automaker will offer the cargo van in three different varieties, each with different body lengths, giving customers the option to select the vehicle best suits their needs. There will be a cargo van version, a cutaway, and a chassis cab, according to a report from Slashgear.

Ford has realized the world is heading towards electrification, and based on the demand from fleet customers to have electric options, will be developing new connectivity technology to allow for better fleet management.

The electric Transit vans will reportedly use Ford Telematics and an embedded FordPass Connect 4G LTE model that will support in-vehicle hotspot use for up to 10 different mobile devices.

With this new offering in 2022, Ford is expected to continue to offer the traditional internal combustion engine versions of the Transit cargo van for the foreseeable future. Ford expects fleet EV use to grow to 8% of the industry by 2025, and hopes to earn much of that with the electric Transit.
