Watch a Tesla Model 3 get hit by a Rav-4 crossing the center line and almost ending up inside a house

Every once in a while we get the opportunity to see an accident that happens in a split second, that we wouldn’t otherwise have had the chance to witness if not for Tesla’s multiple cameras in Tesla’s built-in dashcam, TeslaCam.

In this video, we see a 12-day old Model 3 travelling along the highway, when all of a sudden a Toyota Rav-4 going in the opposite direction somehow loses control, crossing the center line and colliding with the Tesla.

The Tesla had just switched lanes when the incident occurred, so it’s unknown if Autopilot was engaged at the time of the collision (likely not). Contrary to what the narrator in the video says, the driver (or Autopilot) does react and attempts to swerve out of the way, but it all happens too quickly and the Tesla is forced off the road, down an embankment, and into a fence of a nearby house.

Fortunately the Tesla is able to come to a stop after colliding with the fence, preventing possible injuries to the occupants of the house. Thanks to TeslaCam, we’re able to see the accident from all angles, and we’re able to see a police vehicle just a few car lengths behind the Tesla when the accident occurred. No word on the extent of any injuries suffered by either the Tesla driver or Toyota driver.
