Vancouver Island municipality to offer charging station rebates for multi-family buildings

The District of Saanich on Vancouver Island is now offering a municipal top-up for electric vehicle chargers. The rebates are available for multi-family buildings looking to add EV charging infrastructure.

The Saanich rebate is in addition to the CleanBC Go Electric EV Charger Rebate Program and the Natural Resources Canada Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program.

The CleanBC program offers up to $3,000 for an EV-ready plan and $600 per parking spot. The Saanich top-up is an additional $1,000 and an additional $100 per parking spot.

Saanich has grand plans for EV’s in the region. In fact, they committed to cutting the District’s emissions in half by 2030.

In addition, the District wants to see over one-third of residents in EV’s by the end of the decade. Thus, the region intends to invest in the necessary infrastructure to support this kind of loft goal.

The rebate targets multifamily buildings, and the District of Saanich hopes the incentives allow for more facilities to provide much-needed EV charging infrastructure, reports BC Local News.
