According to a recent LinkedIn profile update, Joe Mardall, previously a top engineering director at Tesla, has moved on to a new opportunity with Zipline.
Mardall was best-known for his work leading the development of the Model Y heat pump. This same system would later be touted as a solution to produce ventilators from existing Tesla parts if ventilator shortages become a real threat in the United States due to COVID-19.
Besides his work on the Tesla crossover vehicle, Mardall worked on thermal and HVAC systems on the Model X and Model 3 and is named on several Tesla patents in the US.
Mardall joins Zipline as Head of Engineering and looks to bring the flair and expertise that made him a top director at Tesla to this rapidly growing company.
Zipline is a leading drone manufacturer focusing on aerial deliveries for the medical field. The company recently announced they are moving into a Series E round of funding and has a current market valuation around $2 billion.
