The Boring Company files application to build tunnel underneath Giga Texas

The Boring Company (TBC) has filed an application with the City of Austin to build a tunnel underneath Giga Texas.

According to the Austin Build + Connect website, TBC filed an application for a project called the “Colorado River Connector Tunnel” on June 21, 2022. The application describes the project as a “private access tunnel along with associated improvements.”

While the application doesn’t specifically mention Giga Texas, the project’s address is listed as 12733 Tesla Rd, located at the north end of the factory complex. News of the permit was first shared on Reddit.

The application also does not go into further details about the project, like what the tunnel might connect to, but it could become part of a larger network of tunnels that would connect Austin with San Antonio.

Earlier this month we told you about a series of emails between a TBC representative and an unnamed official with the City of Kyle discussing an 80-mile underground tunnel between the two cities.

The project would initially start with shorter tunnels in each city, before eventually connecting them with a larger tunnel running along Interstate 35.

TBC already has a pair of tunnels in operation in Nevada underneath the Las Vegas Convention Center. The Vegas Loop has been operating since 2021, with TBC recently receiving approval to extend the tunnel through city limits.
