Tesla has introduced the Vision Park Assist feature for the Cybertruck in the latest over-the-air (OTA) update. This update, version 2024.26.11, marks the first time that a driver-assist feature has been made available for the all-electric pickup truck, setting the stage for the eventual release of Full Self-Driving (FSD).
The Tesla Cybertruck has been on the roads since November last year, and will soon hit roads in Canada in a couple of months. However, the Cybertruck has been without some of the features Tesla vehicles are most known for, Autopilot, FSD, and perhaps less so, Park Assist.
That last one has been a particular area of concern because of the difficulty of parking a larger vehicle like the Cybertruck, but over the weekend Tesla rolled out a software update and finally added Park Assist to the Cybertruck.
Instead of relying on sensors, the Vision Park Assist feature leverages Tesla’s vision technology, utilizing cameras to create a high-fidelity 3D representation of the surroundings. This includes the proximity and shape of nearby objects, barriers, other vehicles, and even painted road markings.
The feature has been available on other Tesla vehicles, first without Ultrasonic Sensors (USS), and then those with USS, and is now available on the Cybertruck.
It’s important to note that the Vision Park Assist feature is not to be confused with Tesla’s Vision Auto Park, the self-parking feature that takes over the parking process entirely, compared to Park Assist which is designed to merely support the driver while parking.
Tesla has hinted at more driver-assist features coming to the Cybertruck, with FSD expected to roll out in September, according to the latest update from the company.
