Tesla updates referral program rewards to further incentivize Model S/X purchases

Tesla brought back their referral program for vehicle purchases less than one month ago, and the automaker has already made a big change to the program. For a limited time Tesla is offering more rewards to further incentivize the purchase of a Model S or Model X.

According to an update to the mobile app on Friday night, Tesla is now giving you 20,000 credits if someone buys a Model S or Model X with your referral code. This is a significant increase from the previous 3,500 credits that were previously available.

The rewards have also changed for the buyer. If you buy a Model S or Model X with someone else’s referral code you will now receive $1,300 CAD or $1,000 USD off your purchase price. But there is more, as Tesla will also give you a free 3 month trial of Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta.

Under the new program introduced last month you can also earn referral awards when you buy another Tesla yourself. If you buy a Model S/X you get the same offer as above – $1,300/$1,000 off and 3 months of FSD Beta.

Unfortunately these new offers are only for a limited time, as the fine print says orders with your referral code must be placed before June 30, 2023 in order to receive them.

Despite the increased rewards for the Model S/X, Tesla has not made any changes to the rewards for the Model 3 and Model Y, which you can see in the images above.

Additionally, Tesla has also not made any changes to the amounts of credits needed to redeem for software upgrades, merchandise, or accessories. That means with the 20,000 credits earned with a single Model S/X referral you can buy the Acceleration Boost twice (9,500 credits), or be well on your way to buying Enhanced Autopilot for 55,000 credits. If you were hoping to redeem for FSD, you will now need 6 Model S/X referrals, instead of the usual 35.
