Tesla Theater to get new streaming options

Tesla’s latest update to its mobile app, version 4.39.5, reveals the company is preparing to expand the entertainment options in the Tesla Theater.

These additions were discovered in a de-compile of the app by @Tesla_App_iOS on X, which were hidden alongside other new features released like the Apple Watch companion app and enhanced Dashcam and Sentry Mode access.

Expanded Tesla Theater Entertainment

Tesla Theater is evolving with a host of new streaming options, providing drivers and passengers with even more ways to stay entertained during charging sessions. According to @Tesla_App_iOS, the Theater now supports multiple new platforms, including TVLand, MTV, Paramount, and HBO GO. It was also mentioned that “more” options would be added, but no further details were provided on what those may be.

For those unfamiliar, TV Land specializes in classic and lighthearted comedic television, like Everybody Loves Raymond, The Andy Griffiths Show, and more. MTV focuses on lifestyle and competition reality shows, along with music programming. Paramount+ offers a vast library of content, including 1883, a prequel to Yellowstone, and classic shows such as Cheers and Frasier, while HBO GO has popular shows like Succession, Euphoria, and House of the Dragon.

Each service requires a subscription, either directly or through traditional cable TV packages. None of these have actually appeared in vehicles yet, but will likely be included as part of the 2024 Holiday Update, which should start rolling out to vehicles within the next week.

Control Light Show via the Tesla App

The decompile also reveals this version of the app supports the ability to activate the Light Show feature directly from the app. Previously, this feature was only accessible inside the vehicle. As with the expanded entertainment options, this will require the Holiday Update to be installed in your vehicle.

Other Improvements

There were a few other tidbits hidden in the app. The inclusion of the “parsePossibleSources” function in this update hints at Tesla’s aim for improved synchronization between the Tesla app and the in-car infotainment system.

Behind the scenes, Tesla has also improved the app’s functionality with the inclusion of the lottie-react-native framework. This new addition ensures smoother animations and enhances the overall user interface, delivering a more polished and visually engaging experience.

Of course, there was also the addition of the Apple Watch App, and enhanced Dashcam and Sentry Mode access.
